"In biblical times, fasting was a normal means of expressing contrition for sin and dependence upon God in the face of difficulty....Fasting continues to be an appropriate response for overwhelming difficulties in our lives...it is appropriate for us to fast and seek the Lord's face...reminding ourselves that our normal state of life in this world is not fullness but hunger, and appealing for God to grant us what we so desperately need. We should not just appeal to God implicitly, however, through abstaining from food, as if fasting were simply another technique to accomplish our desires. Rather, we should appeal to the Great King explicitly through humble and persistent prayer, seeking his favor more fervently than a merely human solution to life's problems." - Iain Duguid
Hi everyone,
As you've probably heard from the news lately, a lot of awful things have happened in the past short while: the cyclone that hit Burma/Myanmar, the earthquake that shook Sichuan, China, the bomb blasts in India... thousands upon thousands of lives were instantly gone, and these great tragedies are far from over. Do you ever wonder what your role is in situations like these!? Carmen shared with us her own thoughts earlier this week, along with some encouragements for making a more meaningful Summer happen. We, as H2O Fellowship, would like to invite you to be involved in Fasting and in Prayer together. It is an action for us to seek God's face together in time of troubles, far on the other side of the world but yet close enough to strike our hearts with fear and sadness. If you've ever thought about what kind of things you can do in situations like these, we believe this is an effectively way to be involved in, both personally and as a fellowship group.
We will start right after Sunday Worship Service ends, during the time when we would usually go to lunch together. We want do our part as brothers and sisters in Christ by taking this action. We will have a time to share God's word, look into the biblical meaning of fasting (both of food and of our desires), updates on the tragedies so we can pray more effectively; we will also have a time for you guys to share your thoughts regarding these matters PLUS your plans/goals for the summer, and how we can effectively make our Summer more meaningful, personally and together as a group.
Please consider joining us this Sunday. We believe this is a crucial time for us to join together, to prayerfully look for God's Mercy and Grace in this world, and the understanding for each of our responsibility as Christians. See you all this weekend!
P.S. If you haven't gotten Carmen's email, she provided a link on an article entitled "Don't Waste Your Summer". Take a look!
